the game where perry ellis actually smiled...

We had a wonderful Saturday in Lawrence... eating some yummy food, doing a little shopping, and cheering on our Jayhawks!
We stopped by the Kansas Union to check out all the Jayhawk gear...
Grayson attached a frog inside the beak on his hat... sorry TCU fans!! ;)
My favorite place to be on a Saturday afternoon!!
Grayson giving Brannen Greene a high-five before the game
 the boys found Big Jay
we had a great day with Nana!!
We thought this car decal was great!! Rock Chalk, baby!!
(And if you were still wondering, P-Ellis smiled because he had not one, but two monster dunks in a row!)

happy 6th birthday, carter!

Our sweet Carter turned SIX on Friday!! How can that be?!? I can remember the day he was born so well...
We started out his birthday by taking a Cars cupcake-cake to school.

Carter said that he wanted to go to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch and Red Lobster for dinner to celebrate.
Uncle Dave said that Carter was a man after his own heart. ;)
Oh yeah, Uncle Dave!!
our waitress at Buffalo Wild Wings brought Carter the most amazing chocolate cake and ice cream dessert for his birthday -- it was delish!!
Aunt Laura joined us in the evening for the festivities
Nana gave Carter her "year in review" book that she works SO HARD on... it was soooo sweet!
Carter chose an ice cream cake with the name Bob on it... he loves to write C-Bob on his papers instead of his name... he thinks it's so funny! He thought he was so cool to have Bob on his cake. Oh my! :)
Happy 6th Birthday, Carter!
We love you!

food, glorious food

If you haven't read "Bread and Wine" by Shauna Niequist, you should. It's a great book about food, serving the Lord, inviting people into your home, conversation around the table, and food. :)
We are not a family that "forgets" to eat lunch... rather, we are the family who at lunch, is already planning what they will have for dinner. Shauna talks about this in her book... and that was one of my favorite chapters. Hence, this blog post...
for breakfast I made the boys Valentine's pancakes... pink pancakes with craisins in the them, served with whipped cream and a cherry on top
Jerry knows that one of my love languages is popcorn... specifically from our local fave "The Popcorner"...so he had a big tin waiting for me on Saturday morning! I love the classic white and a new flavor they have, Thin Mint. Yum! The red is cinnamon -- Jerry's favorite.
and for lunch, while we cheered our KU boys on to victory over Baylor, we enjoyed a heart-shaped pizza... delish!

valentine's day parties

Last Friday it was super fun to celebrate Valentine's Day with both boys in their classes at school! Carter's party was first...

the kindergartners made dogs out of hearts to decorate their valentine bags
Carter said his was a "KU dog" ;)
dropping his valentines into all his friends' bags
then in the afternoon we were off to Grayson's party
they made their own valentines boxes...
he is stuck somewhere between little boy and pre-teen... sometimes things are cool and sometimes he is just over it... I think he was just over it that afternoon ;)
Happy Valentine's Day!!

uncle brint and claire-bear's visit

Uncle Brentley and Aunt Claire-bear came in town last weekend, and we loved hanging out together! The boys were so excited to see them (and we were too)!! Here are some pics of our time on Saturday night, after the big KU win...
(earlier in the day, Mom, Dad, Brett, and Claire all went to Lawrence for the basketball game)
we met up with them for dinner that evening... but first, some wrestling ;)
 and flipping... and some tricks!
 Claire and me
not sure exactly what was happening here... yikes!
 group pic!
definitely need to light some smoke bombs on a January night... why not?!?
three peas in a pod! ;)

just like the b-52s...

Grayson's soccer team had the honor of playing an exhibition indoor soccer game at Hartman Arena. The Rojos U-10 and U-11 teams played each other, and it was lots of fun to watch!
G is on the bottom row, the last white jersey on the right
Coach Rob gives a few pointers before the match -- G is #5

Carter was excited that the clown was there early to make balloon animals ;)
After the exhibition game, but before the B-52s official game started, the boys carried a Rojos banner on the field. Grayson is back in his red uniform, and on the far end of the red banner, with his team. It was a fun night! :)

slo-mo video

The boys have been having lots of fun with my iPhone 6 and the fact that its camera has a slo-mo feature. Carter videoed Grayson making a great basket in our neighbors' driveway. We all joked that the worst part is the flag flying in the background... ;)
(we need a Jayhawk instead!!)
